My favorite place: southern Arizona (by odinn7)
I was asked if I could write about my favorite place and I had to think about it for a little bit. I have lived in the northeastern part of the United States for my whole life, but I have been around a little bit. I honeymooned in Vegas and I absolutely loved that city.

It was amazing. Everything was over the top and flashy. I look forward to going back some day and I'm just hoping it is the same then.

However, I think my favorite place would have to be Arizona. My mother moved out there in the early '90s, and I went to visit her twice. The first time was 1992 and she lived in Tucson at that time and it was nice but not great. I got to see the sights and all that but Tucson was a small city and to me, that wasn't really what I expected of Arizona. The next time I went out there was in 2006 and my mother was now living in Arivaca, a southern town that is placed more in the wilderness and more of what I expected Arizona to be.

I was amazed by all the wildlife out there. I am a spider lover as some may know and I was in my glory. I got to view Black Widow nests in real life which is something I thought I would never get to see. I saw a Wolf Spider lay an egg sac. I caught my own Aphonopelma tarantula right out of the desert and I still have her to this day. I saw lizards and snakes that I can't name. I saw Road Runners and they don't look anything like they do in that cartoon with the coyote. I also got to view some Javelina which are very similar to wild boar.

Apparently they hunt the desert at night in packs but I can't say if this is true or not but they were interesting to see.

Aside from the animals and insects, there were cactus plants called Saguaro that had to be 20 to 30 feet high.

There was a drought going on at the time but I went to visit a lake that was drying up and I saw deer running around there. It was funny because where I live, I see deer all the time, but I never expected to see them out there. The desert was flat all around with dried up trees and bushes just like you would see in a Western film. Off in the distance there were mountain ranges which was kind of funny to see against all the flat land. The sunsets were unreal. I think the mountain ranges along with the desert sand had something to do with this but the sky during sunset was just a color I am not really used to seeing. Perhaps it was the lack of streetlights, I can't say.

Overall, I spent 12 days there in the desert and I loved it. It was one of the few places that I ever truly felt relaxed and at peace. I want to move there but there are some things that hold me back at this time. Maybe someday I will make the move.
