    Removal of surgical scarring
I have a large surgical scar that begins where my left ear connects to the left side of my head, and in a wandering line, roughly follows my hairline to the same point on the right side of my head. I have been thinking of talking to a plastic surgeon about whether the scar could be diminished, but always felt that I should not pay attention to what should be such a non-important physical imperfection. Unfortunately though, it is beginning to become clear that we do live in a society that places an undo amount of importance on physical traits, and that I should manage the problem for at least the business, if not for the most simple interpersonal reasons.

Does anyone have any knowledge about surgical scar removal? Are there methods to reduce the appearance of surgical scars? Does anyone have a rough estimate about what such a procedure would cost if it does in fact exist?

The scar is 24 months old and is not delineated with an obvious red line, but is noticeable as an indentation in my scalp that is about 1/16" deep. The scar is immediately noticeable, and although I don't have much of a personal problem with it, it is the kind of scar that does affect the first impressions that I make with prospective clients, and yes, in the dating scene.

    Any information is greatly appreciated!

Some scars fade over time, but surgical scars are permanent. There are a few options to treat surgical scars, depending on your particular case, including skin grafts, excision or laser surgery. If you are considering surgery to remove the scar, talk with your doctor about the cost and treatment options that's best for you.
