| | | Red Rash on upper arms I've had this rash my whole life. I don't know what its called. My mom took me to the doctor when I was a teen and they prescribed lotion, that did not work. I was wondering if anyone else had this rash. Have you ever had it cured? Do you know anything that could help me? | | | | | | |

It sounds like chronic hives. There are many factors that can cause hives such as heredity, allergic reactions, medications and foods. You should see a dermatologist. He/she will be able to make a diagnosis and prescribe a proper treatment.

Most of the time hives are short-term, but in some cases chronic hives can persist for over 20 years. You may have a hereditary toward the development of hives, or it could be from an allergic reaction. If you have a skin condition that persisted for over 20 years, then you really need to see a dermatologist or physician. Only a doctor can make a proper diagnosis and start a treatment program.

I think it was excema or something like that...I don't know what I would be allergic to that would cause a rash on my arms for 21 years straight...But thanks for the advice. I will definitely be visiting a doctor as soon as my insurance kicks in (Nov. 1)!!

Eczema may appear more scaly, dry, and red which may lead to thickened, crusty skin. If you don't have these symptoms, then it isn't eczema. It's good to know that you pan to see a dermatologist. A dermatologist can determine which skin condition you have and treat the affected area.
