My hair turned gray with a toner!what do I do?
My hair is a naturally dirty blonde hair color but I bleached it so it's a very light bleach blonde now. My whole family told me to make it more natural looking so I decided to dye it again and this time put some low lights in it. The bottom of my hair was a perfect shade of blonde but the top was still bleach blonde. So my hair stylist gave me a toner to put in my hair. I mixed it up, put it in my hair, and rinsed. When the towel came off my head my hair was a horrible gray color. So now the top of my head is gray and the bottom is blonde. I don't know what to do to fix it can you help me??

Stay away from 'ash' colors. Buy a warm color. Buy a shade lighter than you want it to turn out. In the future, I would recommend just highlights, not a full box color. OR something like Sun-in. That gradually lightens your hair in the sun.

It'll fade. Sun-In would be a big mistake. Sun-In is only hydrogen peroxide. It won't lighten the artificial pigment; it'll only lighten the undertones, but if you've already colored your hair, that would not do much, either.

I didn't say use sun in now. In the future, when she wants to lighten her hair. Gray in her hair will fade, but not to a natural color. The only way is to color it after using toner.

I have to politely disagree. Sun-In is quite damaging to the hair. I would never recommend Sun-In to anyone. The effect of weak peroxide and heat (i.e. Sun-In) is actually harsher than using a single-process haircoloring. Hair tends to dry out very badly.

In shelby258's case, she probably toned with an ash; maybe she over-bleached. But unless she bleached to white (which would really damage her hair), the underlying pigment is yellow or pale yellow. In either case, fading will improve the color. Most double-processed blondes have some trouble with fading to a yellow. In my experience, it will look less objectionable than it does now within two or three days, and within 10 days, it'll probably look great. In addition, letting it fade will keep it from being damaged further and that's always a big problem with double-processed blondes.

Shelby258: if the color is too obnoxious, ColorFix or Color Oops will remove the toner and you can re-tone with something a bit less gray.
