Going from black hair to blonde?

Hello all,

About a month or so ago I dyed my hair jet black permanent with Garnier. It is now faded to an ugly dull dark brown, and I want to go bleach blonde again.
I am definitley going to go to the salon to get my hair blonde (want to do blonde on top dark on bottom) but I wasn't sure if I should try to get some of this dark mess out of my hair first? I want my hair really really light, and I wasn't sure that if I used Loreal Colorzap before I went to the salon, if it would help me achieve lighter blonde color with less damage?
Basically I just want to know the best way to get the lightest possible blonde with the least amount of damage done to my hair as possible..without spending a fortune at the salon.
Thanks all!

i really don't have any experience from blonde to dark colors but i know that black or basically any dark brown shades are not really harsh and doesnt't look feminine! i don't understand how brunettes proud of themselves.....but i suggest you go to a professoinal and explain everything to heim/her and ask just do what you tell them to do. don't let them convince you with any dark colors! b/c all they want is see you confuse and then do a crappy job and rip you off!

from my experiences my hair ends up less damaged when I leave it up to a professional. I'm not by any means saying you don't know what you're doing but the products that my girl uses in the salon aren't as damaging to my hair.
