McGwire was juiced ;he's disqualified . Ruth was an overall better hitter and baseball player than Aaron even conceding that it's difficult to compare players from different eras.As an example ;Ruth never played against the best of the black players of his era and it is arguable that Aaron faced better overall pitching .

The reason I say Ruth was a better player is because he was a very successful pitcher before he became an everyday outfielder .He pitched for 10 years. Ruth also was a superior player compared to his contemporaries than Aaron was compared to his. Ruth often hit more home runs than entire teams.

Ruth had 714 hr 2213 rbi and a .342 avg.in 22 years as a hitter in 8399 ab.

Aaron in 23 years had 755 hr .2297 rbi.and a .305 ba. in 12364 ab.

Their offensive output is close .Like I said .I give the edge to Ruth because of his pitching which reduced his number of at bats.

Btw ;as a pitcher Ruth was 94-46 with a 2.28 era .
