Old lease

I have an old lease agreement that is not letting me get a new apartment. I am a 20yr old male, married and with child on the way. I had an apartment which I left 2 maybe 3 months early. The landlord told me to pay the last months rent and to vacate. So I did. I also would notably forfeit my deposit, which was okay due to my early lease breaking. Now I go to lease a new apartment and they say I cannot due to an outrageous amount that I owe this past apartment complex. I need to know what I can do about this past lease, as far as payment options and such. Please give me any advice you can. Thank you in advance. HELP

Did the old landlord give you any paperwork showing what you paid and that you were released such as initialling the lease marked VOID?

nope I was young and naive. I didn't know to ask for any such paperwork. Now me and my wife might very well be left homeless. I have tried to enter into a payment agreement. Hopefully this will allow me to get into a new home. Hopes and wishes is all thats on my side.

Hey Doc, I would not offer to pay additional money if you have already done the correct payment. Can you tell us a bit more info like where this outrageous amount shows up? Is it on your credit history or where? You can challenge inaccurate charges. Back to you.
