| Bank account seized Hi,
My checking count was seized by a debt collector 4/11/07
There wasn't much in there, about 225.07 when it was frozen. Three transaction were stopped, two checks and a ACH payment. I knew about the debt and tried to make arrangements to pay it but they wanted $175.00 a month which I could not afford due to not having a job since October. Reason I do not have a job is because I'm disabled and did received short term disability pay from my former employer but was denied long term disability from them once short term was done. I'm currently waiting to see if I qualify for Social Security disability so the only source of money I have is through my husband's job.
The debt collector said that a judgement was granted against me but I never received anything about a summons or a judgement in the mail or in person for that matter. I went to the court to see if in fact this was true and sure enough there it was. I explained to the clerk that I never received a judgement letter so she advised me to fill out an Order to Vacate which I did.
Meanwhile I needed my bank account released because of my husband paycheck goes in the account on Fridays - only 300.00 of it every week.
The debt collectors took 100.00 and the bank took 125.00 for legal fees.
I want to keep the account open but need to know can they- the debt collector- seize my account again right away or do they need another judgement from the court.
I made arrangement to pay them monthly, the lady at the collection agency did not give me a set amount, she just told me to send what I can. I do not trust them.
Can someone tell me what my best course of action to take?
Thank You
