Medical Bankrupcy

I feel very lucky to find this site. It looks like it could be very useful. I will just jump right in and see what happens. A couple of years ago, I was caught up in a layoff, typical for my business. Seems like they are coming sooner and lasting longer. Well, because of the layoff, I was without medical insurance for over 6 months. There was no way I could have afforded it. Little did I know that, here in Texas, if you are without insurance for over something like 63 days, you could end up with a "pre-existing" situation. Before I was laid off, I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy. There are three causes which they started to determine which one. Layoff came along for 6 months. I found work and continued with my treatment when they started to suspect circulation problems and found I had some artery blockage in my heart. It was fixed. I found out that that expensive testing and surgery was not covered my my new insurance because they had called it pre-existing. I am not one to bail out of obligations, but I cannot afford this debt which is overwhelming me at over $68,000. I found out about medical bankrupcy. What is the concensus on that route? Thank you.

In general bankruptcy will be for all your debts and you will have to include all your income. You need to set down with a good bankruptcy attorney as see what your options are.

Also not all insurance will have a pre existing clause, many times insurance though an employor company will not have that clause. You may want to consider another line of work that would have insurance that covers you for all illness.

Find a good lawyer.
For the most part the first visit with the lawyer is free.
