I recieved a letter today that was forwarded from my old address in Iowa to my new address in Arkansas. This letter is from a law firm stating that I must contact them within 10 days from the date of this letter to satisfy the balance of $3794.62. If they have not been contacted within the 10 days an order to appear will be filed. The letter was dated 02/26 and I just recieved the letter today.

Attached to the letter is a partially blank document that states a company name (I am guessing this is a collection agency) vs. my name (defendant). It is an order to appear with the Iowa district court. The date and other info is not filled in except a portion that reads " That Judgement was rendered on Nov 16, 2004 in Iowa district court against above captioned Defendant. That execution has been issued and returned unsatisfied".

It says if the order to appear is taken that I will have to bring in tax returns, pay stubs, etc.

I went to give this attorney a call to find out what this debt is as I have no clue where this came from. The phone immediatly answers with a voice stating that any information recieved is an attempt to collect a debt.

I need to know what I should do and if I should in fact contact this attorneys office and what I should and should not say. This supposed debt looks like it stems from 04'. Is there a statute of limitations for this? I no longer live in Iowa and now live in Arkansas does this play a part in anything? How can I protect myself in this situation?
