If you are struggling to retrieve them I would suggest you take it to an Apple expert, if you go online at the Apple website it will tell you where you nearest dealer is.

One thing to bear in mind is that if the data has been binned the hard disk just writes a bit of code that flags the space as empty to the operating system. In reality if you haven't overwritten any of the blocks on the drive getting the databack is not difficult but I would suggest if it's important data then I would pay someone for an hour of techie time rather than risk it. If this has only just happened then stop using the machine until you've got your data back.

One bit of advice is backup to a DVD or external drive in the future, you should be able to export contacts to a text file on a USB stick and then at least you'll have access to old contacts. Sorry that this is a bit like shutting the gate once the horse has bolted...

Best of luck

Paul
