For an account to be garnished there must be a judgment against you, contact the attorney who garnish the account and request copy of the alleged judgment.

Contact an attorney now.

For them to "attach" your bank account they had to get a judgement against you, and then the right to attach your bank account, It is also likely once you start working they will also find this out and garnish your wages also.

This would be from some old debt that you did not pay, the law firm that did the attachment can inform you of that. The bank will have a legal notice showing yhou what court ordered this

And I will note, not meaning this wrong, but if you are pennyless, you really can't do much, filing bankruptcy will cost money, the attorney and even if you do it yourself or find someone to do it for you, there is a hundred and something filing fee. You will need to not use a bank account for now, work, cash your check at a check cashing place and just keep the cash on you.
