Can a hold or lien be put on a savings account or does it only happen to a checking account?

A attachment or freeze can be placed on any checking or savings account that the person owned. With the exceptions of the IRS, ( not up on their procedures) but debtors will have to have gotten a judgement from the court to do this. ** the laws on this vary by state in the US.

Also if the account is a joint account the other party can get their funds out, if they prove in court that they have money in that account but will have to prove where it came from, show that they put it in, and the percentage,
