Credit card debt-Alberta statute of limitation

I have debt owing to four credit card companies. Due to an accident and age (65) I had to stop making any payments one year ago. I have been told that in Canada I would be relieved of these debts if absolutely no payments were made for 24 months.
Prior to that one year, I had never missed a payment in the previous twelve years. Have lived in Alberta for the past 8 years - prior to that I lived in Nova Scotia. Is the above true?
