Cahing in my 401K

I recently ended my employment with a large company and returned to working in childcare. I now live in as a caregiver for 2 young children and perform chores, as needed. My question is, I have money from my 401K with the company that I am seriously considering receiving it as a straight check. I am returning to school in the fall, and have other bills to pay. I recieve a monthly stipend from my current position, as I don't pay rent and receive board as well, in exchange for my employment. What are the exact risks involved? I am 25, but am using this time to attend school and "hone my craft" as it were, and will undoubtedly return to another work setting where I can begin a new balance for my 401K with that job. Thank you!!!
