I have recently been to my deceased fathers bank with letter of administration and they wrote me 2 checks made out to the estate... I don't understand this... why couldn't they just have been made out to me... then told me I have to now get a tax id number for the funds... can anybody explain this...

My bank is refusing to close my checking account until I pay the overdraft fees they excessively charged. I told the rep at the bank that I would make arrangements to pay the money I "owe" them, but that I want to close the account to stop their continued overdraft fees. What can I do?:(
