    Hsbc Bank
    My husband filed his taxes and used our children for his dependants. Well, someone used our children's ssn# and the IRS refuses to pay hsbc bank until they finish their investigation. That's understandable and is really not a problem. However, hsbc is being very ugly about the situation (We received our rapid refund through them) and they even threaten to levy my husband's wages. I know we have to be sued before they can do that but I wondered if anyone else has had this problem with them being so rude and ugly.

    You were foolish enough to take one of those "rapid refund" loans? With E-filing, you can generally get your refund in under 2 weeks. Rapid Refund loans are legalized robbery in my opinion.

    Frankly, if you were foolish enough to take one of them, you deserve to be dunned.

    Now you need to get a REAL loan to pay off HSBC.

    As Scott noted, what you took out was a loan, though a high interest credit company most likley ( guessing at the terms) the loan most likely was payable within a certain time frame, and the terms most likely stated if the IRS did not pay within the time frame or pay at all, you were liable to pay the money back, So you need to make payment arrangements with them basically.

    Since you borrowed the money, they have the proof of the loan, if they legally notify you and serve you and get a judgement, yes they can garnish the pay and the such.

    So talk withthem and try to work something out.

    Also who would have used your kids ( an EX) since they would have to know the kids social security numbers it would have to be someone you know

    Scott, to be honest with you really didn't assist me. Just like the people in the past you made me feel really stupid. I know as humans we do not always do the right things but when we do make a mistake we reach out and ask others for help. It’s not always done in order to shirk our responsibilities but to see what our alternatives are. I came to this site because you seemed to be very knowledgeable but you are sarcastic and rude individual who appears to have a superiority complex. I hope the mistakes you have made in the past no one has made you feel as low as you have made me feel. Nevertheless, I will not be coming back here to ask anymore questions and the person that helped me the most was not you but the gentleman who just simply answered the question without all the condescending remarks. I'm glad you feel that my family got what they deserve. Maybe one day you will get the same disrespect when you need help the most.

    Ok, now you are cutting off your nose to spite your face. To not make use of this site because you didn't like some of the answers you received.

    Believe me I saw the sarcasm in your response. And I decided to answer it in kind. I don't deny that my answer was harsh. But I do deny that my initial answer wither rude or sarcastic. I told the facts as I see them. And what I posted was accurate. There has been so much written about these rapid refund loans, that I was surprised anyone still gets them. I do deny that I didn't assist you. I think you are now, highly unlikely to make the same mistake of getting a rapid refund loan. And I did tell you how to deal with being dunned (to get a real loan and pay off HSBC).

    You seem to be very typical of people that I have encountered on line. The real rudeness and sarcasm has come from you. Your first response, was clearly sarcastic. Then you compounded that with your rudeness in saying I have a superiority complex. People like you often see the qualities they exhibit in others, even when they don't exist. And that appears to be what you have done here.

    I told you the truth and you didn't like it. Rather then accept that truth you lashed out at me. That's fine, I have a thick skin. The next time you ask a question, you may find my answer extremely helpful and considerate. Or you can just ignore my responses in total. But to not use this site because I told you the truth, is your loss, not mine.

    When it is unerned income credit, no one cares if the loan is costing them 300$ for two weeks. It's not really their money anyway.

    First - To the people mocking this woman and her family. You are rude. You are not perfect. Many people have no idea that rapid refund loans are a scam.

    Second - I know an individual who went through a similar issue with the same group of lenders for almost the same reason. The IRS held 1/2 of their refund while determining who actually had a legal right to claim children for EIC purposes. The people tried to give HSBC the check the IRS did send them, and they were told to hold it. Later, they gave the money to them, and were slapped with interest for the period that HSBC refused to take the money.

    Third - By law, you don't have to take harassment from a creditor. Check out the Federal Credit Laws and Fair Debt Collection Act. Also, you should check with your state. H&R Block and HSBC have lost major lawsuits regarding rapid refund loans in several states.

    Did you ask when this person took out that loan? This may have been the first e-filed tax return they ever dealt with.

    Did you ask the circumstances that caused them to feel they needed a refund more quickly than normal filing suggested? Again, they may have been in a position that you do not understand.

    I agree that they are legalized robbery. They are successful because the vast majority of people have no idea that they are legalized robbery.

    No one deserves to be robbed for trusting someone.

    No one deserves to be ridiculed, called foolish or told they deserve to be dunned when they sincerely ask a question and are already clearly stressed out.

    This world is full of people with problems. They need a little understanding.
    When people like you are unnecessarily cruel, rude or abrasive in your answers you add stress to already stressed out people and you may create the next mass murderer in your own desire to be an .

    You are entitled to your opinion. I'm entitled to mine. There is a clothing store in my area with the slogan "an educated consumer is our best customer". For these rapid refund lenders the opposite is true. An "uneducated consumer is their best customer".

    Every year since these loans have existed, consumer reporters in media warn taxpayers about them. I remember when I first saw them I looked at the terms and realized what a ripoff they were.

    PT Barnum said there is a sucker born every minute. But suckers aren't born, they are made by naïveté, laziness and greed. I don't deny I was harsh with these people. But sometimes that's what's required to wake people up. I'm not going to apologize for doing so.

    Possible results of you being harsh:
    1) They become shy and afraid to ask questions or seek advice.
    2) They 'wake up and realize that this was a mistake."
    3) They stop coming here. The site promotors lose advertising revenue.

    Possible results of you being polite.
    1) They wake up and realize that this was a mistake.
    2) They continue to seek knowledge by asking for advice.

    So? I don't own this site. I have no concern whether my advice results in someone not coming back here. If they want to run away and hide from good advice, that is up to them. My only concern is the accuracy and the qulaity of the advice I give.

    You have every right to disagree with the tone of my advice. But the advice was correct. I didn't make fun of anyone. All I did was point out, accurately, they they made a highly questionalbe financial decision.

    Yes TXSKY I would add a word of warning, coming on as a brand new expert with no experince as to how hard most of these experts work, and also after 3 to 7 years of doing this, you sort of end up cutting to the chase of the answer. And in the end most people want to find a way to blame others for mistakes they make, for contacts they sign or agreements they sign and don't read.

    Take time and see the good these people do, and spend more time here and then you may feel a lot differntly about them.

    In this case, they signed a agreement that said, if the IRS does not pay within a certain time frame they would pay the loan back, that is plain and simple issue

    So informing people they need to read the items they sign, and that legally they are obligated to pay this back until the IRS issue is resloved.
    And sometimes being very direct and plain talking gets their attention, some don't like it, but over all most think about it and know ti was their fault,
    This poster knew it was their fault, really, they knew they had to pay it, back, they came here most likely to see if there was some loop hole so that the IRS or the lender could be blamed.
