Frozen account

2 weeks I ago I received a notice from my bank saying my account would be closed as of a certain date due to "suspect irregularities" (I believe too many ATM deposits), and if any funds left in the account, I would be paid them within 15 days. The date of closure went by and I contacted the bank and was told the actual closure date was going to be 2 weeks later, any checks presented would be refused but direct deposits might be credited. Checks were returned and I paid them off. A direct deposit was posted. I now received a notice stating the account was close (about 5 days ago), but the bank manager says he was given a closure date that is still a week away. There is over $2000 in that account that I need to pay my bills (part of which is a paycheck received a week 10 days ago). All deposited items have cleared and I have paid returned items. There is no more money to come into or out of that account. How long can they legally keep my money? My employer tried to get the direct deposit reversed back to him so he could issue me a paper check, but was told that currently the account is frozen and the money could not be reversed. How long do I have to wait for my money. To make things worse I have had throat surgery so am physically unable to speak to them. I have emailed them and received some answers, but no one has given me a date that the funds will be returned to me.
