Hello Chaitra8 - I'm wondering where you heard this rumor from? As J_9 says, it is totally untrue. The only way that the sun could be above the horizon for 36 hours straight, or for it to be dark for 36 hours, would be if you are positioned above the arctic circle. Neither India nor the US is anywhere near the arctic circle, so absent the entire earth tilting over by close to 90 degrees this could not happen. And there is no credible mechanism that would cause the earth to tilt over like that.

Or if the Earth were to stop for 36 hours

Indeed, that's weird... a day and a half!
