where can I go to identifying artists signatures on oil paintings.

I have 2 oil paintings by different artists. How do I identify the signatures in order to do additional research. Is there a website that identifies artist's signatures? Thanks for your help.

I may be incorrect because of the thousands of websites that are devoted to art of some kind, but to my knowledge, there isn't such a site available other than a Help Desk such as we are on right now.

You could try posting images of the paintings here as well as close-ups of the signatures and the good people here would try to help you. You could also take the works to an art museum, an art teacher or an auctioneer to see what they have to say. But, I do hope that you try our site here, because this is the Art topic area and identifying works of art is part of what we try to do here.

Thanks!

there are a fair few auction sites or artist a-zs such as Sotheby's - Welcome , Tate Collection | General Collection | Artist A-Z , ArtLex Art Dictionary , National Portrait Gallery A-Z of Portrait Artists (A) and Art cyclopedia: The Fine Art Search Engine . If the worst comes to the work, a fine art museum normally has a section that researches artists.
