I'm stuck and need ideas!

So I have two projects I'm working on at the moment and I just don't know what to do! Firstly I am working on a sketch for my first printmaking project ever. I just don't have any good ideas and my professor left the instructions pretty vague. It just needs to be 8X10 and have a pretty good value range. My other project is for an Elementary Art class. My professor gave us a hair roller and we are to turn it into something else....yeah. I have no idea other than put ears and google eyes on it and make it some sort of animal! Please help! Any ideas would be great!!!

I know that your question is now a number of days old, and perhaps you have already solved your problem. But, I wanted to make an attempt at an answer so that you know that your post has not been ignored.

Concerning your sketch - how about elaborating on something that you have already sketched? Maybe add some things to it?

Concerning the hair roller - I would just let your imagination run wild with that! Maybe you could even add some sort of environment for the animal with additional objects that cold be included around it?

If your professor was pretty vague, then I would think that you might have more freedom as to what you could decide to do. If your professor did not give any detailed instructions as to what you are to do, then it sounds like he or she is just looking for you to be creative. So, I would just go with what your heart and creative side tells you to do!

Just my suggestions.

Brush roller, plastic with cover, smooth, does it have knobs or places to perhaps insert limbs to make a tree?

If you describe the hair roller maybe some of us could help with a few ideas. Clough's idea is good about adding environment out of other things for an animal, space ship, tree, whatever you go with on the hair roller. I had to take methods classes for Elementary Education Courses toward a teaching degree but I did better in Secondary. One has to just sort of go back to childhood in their mind and study the piece you are looking at. As children, our imaginations are not hindered by so much reality. Good luck.

By printmaking are you referring to using linoleum and cutting out your design in different layers, using ink over the top layers to define your piece? Perhaps if we had a more clear understanding of the medium you will be using, we could come up with a few ideas to help.

Even though I know these projects have to be from your own creativity, just hearing ideas from others will probably trigger a number of ideas in your own mind. Sometimes we just need a catalyst to give us a jump start.
