I am wondering how old is the art?
Very often an antique dealer in town may be a good start.
They can always refer you to someone else locally.

It's probably a good idea to let people know what kind of material you're having appraised.

I'm also from your side of the tracks and if you haven't connected with an honest fine arts appraiser I might be able to help you--at no charge. Just send images of your art to me at AOL.com - Welcome to AOL along with the size of each one and I'll take a look and get back with you.
