learning to paint on eggs

i am just learning to paint designs on eggs, what i need to know is should i cover the egg with the main color before drawing my design or paint after the design is drawn.
also when painting the design should i paint the outline first and then fill in with colors or do the colors and then do the outline... just learning , any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated...
