Hi there Ang!

What kinds of eggs do you paint on? It doesn't matter in terms of your question, I am just curious if you paint on Ostrich, Emu, Goose eggs, etc. There are so many avenues for finding pictures to paint on eggs. Calendars are a great start but only if they are photographs and not someone else's paintings. You can scan them, crop them, and print them out the exact size you need to fit your egg. Also take your own photos and do the same.

What type of gourds do you like to paint on? Dipper, Birdhouse, Basket, etc.

Have you viewed "The Artist In You - Indexed by Artist"? I have several gourds and eggs posted under jrebel7

Clough took the time to go through the 1500 posts of the thread "The Artist in You" and indexed by artist then each artist lists what is featured on that particular link. It is a great way to view some amazing art. I can't even list all the artists whose work I so admired on that thread, there are so many.

The following is the link if you would like to view it.

I'm sure there will be other who will post some great links and ideas for you later. Best to you!

FirmB, you are such a great researcher! The links are great. The first one you asked about concerning the Ostrich and Emu eggs probably would not work very well because the surface of these eggs have a pebbly texture. It would work great on smooth eggs however. I will check out the other links more fully. It is way past my bed time now here in my part of the world but wanted to let you know this information. The link for unique eggs was great. This gal has talent for design. There is just no end to what one can do with eggs. I will try to post a couple of Ostrich Egg lamps I have made soon. I checked out one link on gourds. Didn't get to really view it in depth. As I say, I will tomorrow. I hope Ang enjoys the links. They are great.

I just wanted to say that this is a nice, helpful and proactive discussion going on concerning the decorating in an artful way on eggs or gourds!

WOW! Tomterm8, I thoroughly enjoyed these links. I certainly have nothing to compare to these. What a challenge. I loved viewing these eggs. Just incredible. Do you do art work with eggs?

Unfortunatly, not yet it's something I've researched a little, but i never seem to have time... however, egg art can be fantastic, and I enjoy looking at it.

Hey Ang and all!

My eggs do not compare to those on the links posted by tomterm8. Those just blew me away with the precise nature of the designs but thought I might as well share a couple of lamps and music box, etc.

The Ostrich Egg Iris is my own, the rose is my own, the Emu Egg with flower pattern I did in a class so it is not my design. It is lined inside to hold jewelry and such and hinged on the back. It was already cut when I received the egg. The Emu Egg music box is also from a class I took so is not my own design.

I use a Dremel tool to cut the egg the design I desire, example, the leaves at the top of the egg for the Iris. The instructor I had in class uses a dental tool. Anytime you are working with the eggs, it is best to wear a dust mask and always work outside. The powder that flies when cutting them is so fine but once in your lungs, sets up like cement.

I have others but won't post them now. If one image is larger than the other, I just forgot to resize and not sure what size it is so will apologize ahead of time if it jumps out at you!!!

Well, it seems I need to resize a couple before attaching. I thought I had so I will just send what I have.
