washer screechy when spinning

My Maytag model LAT9206BAE washer makes a screeching sound when it is on the spin cycle. A friend looked at it and thought we may need to replace the two belts on the bottom of the washer. There was a burning rubber smell on the wash load that I first started hearing the sound. What do you think? THANKS!!
