    White-Westinghouse dryer won't start, hums
When I push the start button, it just hums and quits humming when I release the button. Belt is OK. What should I check next?

    Hello,

I would be happy to help you out with this. At first it seems that you are describing a defective motor symptom. The hum you hear is the motor trying to start, it overheats then kicks off. That's why the hum stops but hums later when you try.

Most of the time this is only solved by replacing the motor.

Something else to check before you do that is to make sure that there is nothing stuck in the blower wheel. You can test this by reaching in the dryer where you would put your clothes and spin the drum. If you are able to spin the drum then there isn't anything stuck.

If you cannot spin the drum then check the dryer's blower wheel for obstructions.

Thanks. If you have anymore questions about this please ask. I will be more than happy to help you out further.

Thanks. The drum turns by hand. To replace the blower, do I need to access the rear of the dryer?

    Hello,

You will have to remove the front of the dryer and take out the drum.

If you need some diagrams and stuff like that, send me your model number and I can do a little better explaining how to take out off the front panel and removing the drum.

    Thanks,
    Bill

Only question I have is once I have the front and top off, do I need to remove the belt in order to remove the drum. And if I need to remove the belt, can that be done from the front?
