    Whirlpool dryer squealing noise when first started
    Our whirlpool dryer (4 cycle, 3 temperatures) makes a squealing noise when it is first turned on. It goes away after it gets going. How do we fix it? We have never repaired an appliance before. Who would be the repair person to call?

    The tumbler is belt driven by the motor. The belt is kept tight by a spring-steel mounted plastic idler pulley. These pulleys wear on their center pin, and squeal when started, until they get warm. They are easily checked, and replaced. Good luck...
