Whirlpool dryer runs and stops during cycle

I have a Whirlpool dryer that runs sometimes for very short amount of time and then stops. It will sometimes restart on it's own for a short time but sometimes it just makes a buzzing sound and does nothing. Sometimes it doesn't even run at all. My husband thinks it's overheating but isn't sure. Any ideas?

Thanks
