Shutting off a tight gas valve

Hello,

I saw a topic such as the one I'm posting but I have something else to add so I'm opening this one up. Maybe I can get someone to help me out here.

I need to shut off the gas valve on my stove. The thing is this valve is rock solid and it's almost impossible to turn. I don't want to force it and then something happens with the gas leaking out so I'm asking here about what to do.

What type of wrench would I need, or this there a special tool to use for this?

Since it's so tight and hard to turn is there anything you can do to make it easier to turn?

I read you turn it left- counter- clockwise about 1/4 is this correct?

Many thanks for any help provided.

turn it 1/4 turn clockwise, i use a cresent wrench adjusted to the handle size to get a little extra leverage.. works everytime, just push it slow and steady no fast jerky movements.. you can test to make sure it doesnt leak afterwards with soapy water in a spray bottle a couple drops a dish soap in water and spray it on connection watch for bubbles.. also can use your nose and smell for gas..
