I have a Hotpoint HSS25GFPAWW side-by-side refrigerator. It has what appears to be a well-known problem with the line inside the freezer door leading to the water dispenser freezing. After going through all of the solutions to keep the line clear it turns out one of the solutions - using a heat gun or a hair dryer to thaw the line out - actually damaged the line itself. At least that is how it appears. I was able to find a replacement line; I got it from a Hotpoint dealer along with the blue 5/16" John Guest connector that comes with it, all for about $25.00.

In going through the steps to try to fix this problem I discovered that I have no access to the space behind the water dispenser as it looks like it is sealed into the door. I can get to both ends of the line but I'm not sure if there is a safe way to access the area inside the door without damaging the door itself.

Two things I don't want to do: I don't want to get GE service involved as the last time I did that (when these problems started) the service technician was in my house for a total of 20 minutes and the visit cost me $195.00. The other thing I don't want to do is replace the door as I don't think that should have to happen. After all, if the parts are available, there has got to be a way to replace them.

Any ideas, solutions, feedback, etc. would be extremely helpful.

Not familiar with that model or the problem you have so this is intended as general information only.

I would assume that you will need to remove the inner liner, the plastic (for lack of a better word) part on the inside of the door to access to the water dispenser and make repairs.

The exterior part of most refrigerator doors are made of thin sheet metal and is quite flexible. It is the plastic interior liner that keeps it ridged and flat.

Suggest removing the door and laying it on a flat surface (the floor). Exterior side down. Remove handles or anything else that would keep it from laying flat. If there are trim pieces that cannot be removed, such as chrome around the dispenser that would keep it from laying flat, lay strips of wood around the edge of the door so that it is supported completely on all sides. Use a soft cloth to prevent scratching.

Lift the rubber seal around the interior edges of the of the door and remove the screws that hold the interior liner to the exterior metal part of the door.

Remove the liner and make repairs.

Reinstall the interior liner. Install all screws loosely. Then after making sure that the door is laying perfectly flat, tighten all the screws.

Reinstall the door and make sure it closes and seals properly. If it does not seal all the way around, remove it, put it back on the floor, loosen all screws slightly, make sure it is laying flat and try again.
