Over the range microwave

Hi, I am currently in the process of upgrading the appliances in my kitchen. I was wondering what the minimum distance between the top of the range and the bottom of the over the range microwave would be. Also as a side note, I am curious as to what major appliances require an extended warranty? Thank you.

First the warranty issue, extended warranties are a type of insurance policy you pay extra to obtain. Rarely are they a good deal for the homeowner. There should be 14-16 inches between to cook top and the bottom of the microwave. This will be spelled out in the owners installation manual. Most microwaves come with a three plong cord so you will need an outlet above the wave, possibly in a cabinet above the unit.

Extended warranties used to be a waste of money. Now that the manufacturer has made every model with at standard 1 year on everything, it can become costly to replace appliances, when the extended warranty would have saved you the money
