My Maytag Washer, which is about 5 yrs old, just stopped spinning. At first it filled up and then started making a really loud noise when it started the wash cycle. I stopped it and then started it again to see if any change and there was none. Then I tried to put it on the spin cycle (don't want to have to manually empty it) and it jolted to spin and then stopped immediately. Tried again and still nothing, now there is a bad smell, like burning I guess coming from the machine. Last year we had the pump replaced by Sears and have been careful about overloading and load selection. Not sure if this a bad motor or possible bad belt? Please any advice on how I might be able to check this myself before calling someone.
