maytag gas dryer

Dryer doesn't start up. Pushing the start button makes the normal "start" sound, but does actually start dryer. My wife did this the first time it stopped working. She stated that she could smell an "electrical smell".

Where do I start?

ok, is the intention of removing the console to look for electrical wiring to see if something is loose or disconnected? Or am I looking for something specific?

And thanks for the quick response!

If electrical smell, You will be looking for loose connections and/or burnt wiring

Just one more note....

Before I took the panel off I tried to start it. It started! But it took several seconds of holding the start button. So, I think something is still "going to break" but still not sure.

I will post back after getting the panel off.

THanks.

We had a similar problem with another dryer. A fuse burnt out. The fuse was responsible for the firing of the dryer to provide heat by burning gas. I suspect your fuse might be starting to go. If you provide me with a model number, I may be able to locate a kit for you to install a new fuse. Its no guarantee that that is what is going wrong but its a possibility
