kenmore washing machine does not spin, pump doesn't stop when empty

Kenmore front load washing machine from late 2002 purchased in Canada
Machine fills with water fine, will pump the water out fine - a little better I think after $1.50 come out of the pump intake - but it will not engage the spin any where in the cycle. It is a belt drive, the drum and motor turn freely.
Is there a sensor somewhere? or?

Check the lid switch. If it is bad it will not spin

How would I go about check the door switch? Short of replacing it - trial and error. I just tried jumping the wires that plug into it but that didn't change anything.

Replaced the switch, Still have the problem........ So we can rule out that idea. :s
