My dryer stopped heating although it runs.
I confirmed I was getting 240volts at the source.
I checked the continuity of the element, the thermal fuse and the thermostat and found that they were continuous.
I have read that the thermistor might have something to do with it not heating also. How do you check it?
Also what are my next troubleshooting tips? Does anyone have a wiring diagram? Thanks, AUFAN

BE Careful WHEN DOING THIS!!

Here is how to check a 220-240 volt element:

Energize the element, hold the two probes on your meter on both sides of the element, you should read the proper voltage (240 volts in your case) If you do, and the element is still not heating, then you have a faulty element. If you Don't, then your problem is elsewhere.

The reason I told you to be careful is so you don't get electricuted. Also dryer elements heat very quickly, and MUST have airflor running through them, or they could overheat and burn up (I learned the hard way here)

However if its not heating, you probobly won't have to worry about an element "burning up" before your eyes.

Here is a wiring diagram for a kenmore dryer, whether its your model, I don't know, but it should give you some reference points to say the least:



Plant one lead of your meter on L2, perhaps at on the right side of the element as depicted in the drawing, then test the other side of the element. Then check the high limit, then the operating thermostat, then the thermal cut off, then finally the timer switch 2 (your diagram or machine may vary slightly). One of these checks should reveal the culprit.

Do not reference to ground! Troubleshooting to ground will only lead you down the wrong path on this circuit. Always reference to you opposite potential. (this case being L2) Remember when checking for voltages, the machine needs to be in the "running".

Turns out the problem was the thermal relay. Replaced and the dryer started working like a champ.

How does one get a thermal relay and know how to replace? Any help0 is much appreciated.

I found it in by looking in the yellowpages under electronics parts / service, but it was available on line also. The hardest part was getting access to it on dryer to test, remove and replace. I think I removed every connection on the dryer, and finally had someone help get to it and put it all back together again. The thermal relay is located in the panel where the dials are and is easily accessible once you get the panel off. I think the relay costed about $30.00 or so. Good luck.

Problem: my dryer stays on only for a couple seconds after the power button is pressed.
Parts to replace: a.)EvenHeat Board controller
b.)Thermistor(temp controller)

The service technician from Sears came to my home and replaced out the EvenHeat Board controller and the Thermistor (part# 8577274 - FSP)
And the problem was fixed.

The Technician commented:
If the Thermistor(temperature controller) is not replaced it may burn out the newly installed EvenHeat board controler.
