    Michele -

It sounds like it is overheating and the thermal cutout is shutting it off. I would pull the dryer out from the wall and take a look at the vent pipe and make sure it is clear of lint. Look back into the dryer and forward down the pipe towards the outside--make it as clean as possible. This lint can catch fire.

    Best of luck,

The vent is brand new. The reason I got the dryer is that mine quite working. When I plugged in the new one it didn't work either. I checked all the wiring at my home and found out that the white wire to the outlet did not have a good connection. I fixed it and plugged in the dryer and it worked but now it gets hot. Do you think it's the wiring? I just got the dryer from a friend. Her washer broke so she bought a new set. Nothing was wrong with the dryer. It's only about 5 years old. When I got it, it had a four wire plug and I changed it to a three wire. Also, I've check the thermal fuse and thermostat and they check out fine. I don't know what else to do.

    Thanks

Always need to know Gas or Electric dryer?
Run the machine with the 4" vent pipe disconnected from the wall. You should get a good hard blow of air out if you don't the filter housing, the blower housing, or the tunnel is clogged. If you do then I'd change the high limit thermostat on the burner tunnel

    Just got back in town...
    Wow, you sound handy! :)
Two things come to my mind.
    1. The dryer vent is new
I'm assuming you mean the flexible pipe that connects the dryer to the wall. If this is true, then I still want you to check inside the wall for lint. This can be difficult. If you can see where the vent exhausts to the outside, see if you get a good flow of air out of it when the dryer is running.
    2. The dryer was switched from 4-wire to 3-wire
Can you say precisely how you wired the dryer? It is possible that there is a problem here.

Best of luck. Most of all, be careful.
