Kenmore Dryer keeps beeping and not heating

My Kenmore dryer worked fine before we moved. When we moved we had to switch the cord from a four prong to a three prong, but according to the instructions manual you can use either. NOW, we have to keep it set on high for it to even heat up, and it sometimes stops in the middle of the cycle doesn't get too hot, and beeps constantly. It was beeping some at our old house, and we thought it might have gotten struck by lightening or something, but it was working ok then. We live in a older home now, verses a brand new home then. Could that have anything to do with it?? Anyones help would be greatly appreciated
