Kenmore 665 dishwasher - touchpad problem?

Hi

I have a Kenmore dishwasher model 665. Possibly the other part of the model number is 17772990. It was acting up and is now not working at all. The lock light would go on seemingly by itself. We were able to turn it off. However, if you slid your finger on the open space on the pad between the No Heat Dry button and the lock, the lock would toggle on and off. Now, I can't get it to start washing.

There are three lights each to show the progress in the wash and rinse cycles. Currently, the last two lights on both the wash and rinse are showing very dimly.

It has been installed at our cottage for the past year and the water does have some minerals in it, hence the inside of the dishwasher is turning a slight rust colour. I wasn't sure if that would cause any problem.

I noticed on previous posts that the colour could affect parts. The dishwasher has a white face and the control section is gray.

Look forward to any help you can provide.

Thanks

Richard

Acottage in January, how warm is it in the cottage when you try the washer? Touch pads are, well, touchy. They can go bad but temp affects them quite a bit.

It is a four season cottage. We keep it around 12 degrees during the week when we are not there and around 20 on the weekends.

I sure hope you are talking 12 degrees centigrade. On this side of the pond we keep cottages and cabins about 45 degrees F. Still, my thought is that the pad will not act correctly at 12 degrees. Do you have the problem when your home is warmed up? If so, replacing the pad may be in order.

Let me know if this helps.

Yes, I should have mentioned 12 degrees Celcius. We are metric here in Canada. But it does act up when the place is toasty warm.
