I have a Frigidaire Gallery gas dryer, model #FSG747GES1. It is intermittently not heating the air.
I have:
- cleaned out the duct to the outside, it doesn't appear to have been obstructed.
- opened the front and done a quick visual inspection. No obvious loose connections behind the control panel or at the heating element.
- vacuumed out the entire unit and, nice bonus, found $.32 in the process.
Once, I opened the door and smelled gas (very small amount). That hasn't happened again, but thought it was worth mentioning.
Because it works sometimes, I haven't replaced any fuses. And, of course, it typically works fine when I'm trying to test it. I've only seen it not work when it's all buttoned up.
Additional info:
- I installed a thermometer in the exhaust and in the drum to monitor the temp and ran a cycle as-is.
- high limit thermostat continuity test checks fine. I ran a cycle with the high limit thermostat wires shorted and the temperature test was the same
- Cleaned off the control thermostat (it was covered with a thin layer of dryer sheet wax), ran it again and temperature test was the same
- heater control switch continuity test checked fine, all expected contacts were in contact for all the switch positions
Does anyone have the expected temperatures for a "normal" cycle? The gas cycled off and on much more than I expected. Approx every 2-3 minutes. Max drum temp was 175, low was 130. Dryer was empty for the test.
Just spoke with Electrolux and the expected temperature range for the different settings are:
High: 140 - 190F
Med: 140 - 180F
Low: 135 - 170F
They didn't have a specification for how long the dryer should stay at these temperatures, but it probably simply cycles between the high and low based on the differential of the thermostat.
Has anyone seen anything like this before? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your help.
