felt gaskets for dryers

I would like to know what kind of felt dryer drum gaskets are made out of so I can make my own. It seems stupid to pay $30.00 to $40.00 for a piece of felt from a dealer when you should be able to go to the yardage store, buy some flet and make your own. But I need to know if it's just regular flet or a specific type.
