Dryer takes too long to dry
I have a Maytag Neptune series 5500 gas dryer which takes forever to dry. I have cleaned the vent, verified the blower is working, verified the igniter works and the flames come on. It does not work correctly in either auto dry or timed dry. I have cleaned the metal bars in the drum as well. It seems to heat and maintain a mild temperature but will never get hot. Thermostat? Other?

First step is to measure the temperature of the air in the exhaust pipe, about 5 minutes after starting a drying period with normal load.

Most common reason why a gas dryer is causing problems with drying :

    - One of the thermostats is interrupted : check for continuity with a Multi meter.
    - One or both of the gas valve coils is/are faulty and has/have to be replaced.

If necessary come back to the board and discuss your findings!

I did a continuity check on the thermostats, they were good. I replaced the coils and it works fine now. Thanks for the help :)

I have a Maytag DE512. It takes an hour or more to dry. Venting is not a problem. The dryer appears to heat to ~150 degrees. I think the problem is that "cool" portion of the cycle is too long. In other words, some times when the dryer is running it will be cool, but at other times is is...
