Which dishwasher to buy? on a budget

I have an old turn dial dishwasher that doesn't clean dishes very well at all. You practically have to wash the dishes by hand before putting them in for them to be clean (you get where I'm going)

I need to purchase a stainless steel unit, Home Depot local to me had a similar type dishwasher to mine on special made by GE for 300-sumthin which I thought was a good price. I was leary how it is practically the exact same washer we currently have.

I need a bang for the buck dishwasher - any advice?

thanks,

lbrowne

We have never had any problems buying the Sears Kenmore brand.

I have never been a fan of GE appliances; the newer units especially don't seem to last as long as other brands. The only problem I have found with the Sears Kenmore products is that when you have a problem during the warranty period, you have no choice but to call them for service. From a service standpoint that's not a good idea. No matter what you're buying, it's always a good idea to have options for repairing it, should you have that expectation. Sears doesn't build anything; they simply buy the units that other companies build and put their name on them. Most Kenmore appliances are built by Whirlpool, so buying a Whirlpool from anywhere gets you the same product. This way if you have trouble, you can call Sears, or you can call any other local Whirlpool service to repair the trouble. The only other piece of advice I can give you is that Whirlpool has two different designs on the market at this time. The newest is the "tall tub" units, which do not seem to please like they used to or should. Fortunately, the older "short" or "standard" tub units are still being produced. This makes them cheaper to buy, and they have been basically unchanged for many years, which usually makes them more reliable. This is a dishwasher I have recommended many times, and to date (knock on wood) I haven't ever heard that someone was dissatisfied with their purchase. Good luck.
