Dishwasher appears to have something in the impeller chamber

I have a Kenmore model 665 dishwasher. When running it sounds (a grinding noise) as though there is something in the impeller . Can I get to the impeller from inside the dishwasher by removing the lower sprayer arm and subsequently the strainer etc. and get to the impeller) If so ,,, there appears to be a large threaded plastic thumb screw (that doesn't want to turn by hand or with use of plyers - I didn't put too much pressure on it for fear of breaking it) that is holding the lower spray arm in place ....

Thanks Keep ItSimpleStupid. Have previous viewed www3.sears.com, but the diagrams didn't show me how the lower spray arm comes off. Complete Model number is 665.15912001.

From the diagram (lower wash arm), the tabs are indicative of probably something like push and turn in the oposite direction of rotation. You might have to hold the shaft somehow. I didn't see the screw in the diagram.

You can try WD-40 on the threads and wait.
