Tiger Crashing On Startup

I have a Mac Mini and recently it has been crashing either on the logon prompt, or when there is no logon promt (after a reinstall of the os) on the desktop. This always seems to be happening after I run the software update. Is there any know issues with some update from apple that could cause this problem?
Thanks Dan.

I routinely repair disk permissions and run Disk Warrior to avoid problems. If you added incompatible RAM this can cause havoc too. Macs do not tolerate value spec memory well.

In addition to Disk Warrior, I like TechTool Pro: it allows you to create a startup drive in a separate partition, so if there are problems you can boot from the e-Drive to diagnose and fix them.

In addition to disk diagnostics & possible RAM problems, another thing you might look at is your Login Items: see Preferences/Accounts/Login Items. What sort of programs are loading when you login?

Helloooo everyone, I'm a new user. Bizarre that I have bumped into a problem I recently solved and yes it was retro-fit memory. I purchased from Apple, it failed after 2 years, If I had purchased and number of other brands the chip would have been replaced free, not with Apple though.

Anyways, I searched high and low for a solution, never thought about the memory chip until the last-gasp. Soon as I withdrew the 512 module from the G4 I had no-more start-up problems.

Regards
Richard
