Apple G3 non-functioning CDROM

Hi,

My cdrom drive doesn't read any discs, it just makes a lot of noise. Does anyone know how to open the Apple or can point me in the right direction to try and clean or fix it? I went to Apple's website, but nothing happened when I clicked on any of the links for the manuals. I thought there might be a way to clean it or replace the cdrom? Thank you, any help is much appreciated.

Everblu

I have a G3 blue & white, which has a latch on the right side that when you pull it up it drops down and you have access to the inside of the machine. What type of G3 do you have?

I would also suggest that you go back to the apple site and look at the forums. There are many helpful links on how to fix/repair macs.

Yes, opening the Mac will depend on whether you have a Blue & White, a Beige Tower (high), a Beige Desktop (long and flatter), or an iMac (all-in-onein translucent colors). (Or the unusual All-in-one Beige.)

Cleaning it will be nice, but if the drive is not working, there is probably nothing cleaning it will do. Good news is you can order a new(er) one online. When you open the case and find the drive, it should tell you which kind you have. Replacing it is mostly a matter of unplugging the cable and plugging in the new one.

By the way, you aren't running OS X, are you?
