Scanning while computer is turned off

I was told my antivirus would scan even if my computer is turned off. This doesn't make sense to me...Is this true? Will my computer scan when the computer is off?

simple answer, NO.

As Anti-virus is a program that runs on your machine, if it's off it wont work.

Is a lightbulb on when it is off?

You can scan your hard drive in another computer such that your operating system is not running
