removal of virus

Dear all,
Thanks for your reply, as per your advice I had set my settings and found that auto dial was enabled. I disabled it and now it is working ok.

I wanted your advice for a few topics mentioned below.
Initially I had norton av 2003, but now it has expired. My friend gave me symantec antivirus corporate version. I wanted to know which is much better, symantec av corporate version OR NAV 2004.Which av do you recommend to use? It is because symantec is about 18MB and NAV 2004 is about 38MB.So definately there must be a difference in between them.

Presently I had installed symantec av corporate and after running live update it had found the following virus when I ran it in safe mode.

file name virus name
A0001446.exe W32.spybot.worm
TFTP1496 W32.spybot.worm
wuammgr32.exe W32.spybot.worm
TPTF2536 W32.Randex.gen

These viruses were quarantined as the av could not clean these files. I tried to delete thereafter but could not delete the same. Also I find wuammgr32.exe in the startup option (msconfig-run). Presently I have
deselected it from the start up option. But how can I delete the above viruses and how to remove the wuammgr32.exe from the startup. Also please let me know if this wuammgr32.exe is required for any operation. Is it safe to deselect wuammgr32.exe

Your prompt reply will be highly appreciated

Thanking you

Murtuza S Lunawadi

Re: removal of virus

Hi Murtuza,

The following sites will explain what NAV 2004 and NAV 2004 PRO include:

http://www.symantec.com/sabu/syswork.../features.html

http://www.symantec.com/nav/nav_pro/features.html

You're correct in that the PRO is better, basically for this:

Data recovery protects and restores important applications and files from accidental deletion

Data cleaning deletes all traces of unneeded confidential files.

To remove W32.spybot.worm, follow the directions given at:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com...ybot.worm.html

To remove W32.Randex.gen, follow the directions given at:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com...andex.gen.html

Make sure you follow the directions, step by step.

To remove wuammgr32.exe, download the free version of Spy Sweeper from:

http://www.webroot.com/wb/products/spysweeper/index.php

Once a virus has been quarantined, it can be deleted by opening NAV, open the Quarantine file, highlight the virus and delete.

Hope this helps!

Go to www.trendmicro.com and run their free online virus scanner. It is much more thorough at virus, trojan, spyware removal.
