There are 2 good antivirus apps that are free

AVG
AVG Free - Download Free Antivirus and Antispyware for Windows 7, Vista and XP

Avira - Click the download tab
Free antivirus - Avira AntiVir

Avira free or Avast. I use Avira because it does not slow my computer down and Avira has a very high detection rating.

I've owned many of the big name Antivirus software programs but none of them were as effective as Avast (which is FREE for home use). You just have to reregister each year... Never had a problem since I installed it years ago....
