One I have used with good results is:
AVG Free Advisor: AVG Anti-Virus Free

rudi_in agrees: I use that as well. Works great!

AVG is a very good program, but it's user interface is well... completely dismol, it looks like a standard Win 98 interface thats been painted a darker shade of gray. I prefer Avast! it looks very nice and scares the hell outta you when it's found a virus.

I think AVG is the best free antivirus, but you can download AVAST which is also free...

If you're in the UK, and have a natwest bank account with online banking, you can get norton free for a year by logging into your account, when you log out again, there is an offer for it on the offers page they always put there when you sign out. I don't know if the offer is still there but it was a month ago.

This version of norton is very sleek, includes their firewall and other features. Very impressed with this version compared to the old versions I had.

And to think I don't really use the account

Hey Monkey,
Norton + XP = Big Steaming Pile.
Admittedly it's free, but I'd like something that works properly and isn't bloat ware

No seriously, the previous versions of norton i will agree were friggen awful. But theyve really pulled something out of nowhere, this version is much sleeker and much better.
