MY TRANE HEATPUMP WONT TURN OFF AT THE THERMOSTAT. THE THERMOSTAT CAN BE IN THE OFF POSITION YET THE UNIT WILL STILL OPERATE. IT CAN GO FROM HEAT TO COOL ON THE COOL SETTING. IT APPEARS AS IF THE THERMOMETER IS WORKING BUT THE UNIT RUNS CONSTANTLY ONLY TO TURN OFF WITH THE CIRCUIT BREAKER.:(

What unit the inside or outside keeps running? If it is the inside unit and you have not done any work to the unit or replaced the thermostat it is probably the blower relay being stuck on. Now it could also be the circuit board if the unit as one.

The inside and the outside unit just constantly runs. I will be replacing the thermostat with a digital one tomorrow. I recently replaced the contactor on the outside unit. The inside unit made a loud humming noise before this change. Now they just wont turn off. It appears to be receiving electricity at all times. The thermostat has no affect on the unit because it can be in the off position and still work. Also it pumps heat and air conditioning when they are selected. Does that sound familiar?

Give it a try. I never had a thermostat that would not turn off.
